Two-day weekend approved for Nepal government offices
Kathmandu – A two-day weekly holiday has been approved by the Government of Nepal for government offices and educational institutions, effective from Chaitra 23, in response to challenges in the supply of petroleum products.
The decision was taken during a Cabinet meeting held on Sunday. Government spokesperson and Minister for Education Sasmita Pokharel said public holidays would now be observed on Saturdays and Sundays. Following the decision, office hours for government offices have also been revised to 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The revised schedule, however, will not apply to educational institutions.
The Cabinet also endorsed several other key decisions. Concessional loans totaling 90 million US dollars have been accepted for the Digital Nepal Transformation Project under the Ministry of Finance, including 40 million US dollars from the Asian Development Bank and 50 million US dollars from the World Bank. In addition, a 95 million US dollar concessional loan from the World Bank has been approved for the Sustainable and Inclusive Finance Project.
On the recommendation of the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration, prior approval has also been granted to carry out organization and management surveys across all ministries, secretariats, commissions, and subordinate bodies.
The resignation of Dharmendra Jha, Executive Chairman of the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), has also been accepted by the Cabinet.
In a move aimed at promoting environmental protection and reducing fuel consumption, the government has decided to initiate the necessary legal framework to facilitate the conversion of diesel- and petrol-powered vehicles into electric vehicles.
The upcoming academic session will begin from Baisakh 15, 2083, according to the Cabinet decision.
Regarding the issue of making ministers’ property details public, spokesperson Pokharel said the matter would be decided in the next Cabinet meeting
