Boston Marks July 4 with historic Parade and Public Ceremonies
Boston: Boston marked the United States’ 250th Independence Day on July 4, 2026, with a daytime parade, historical reenactments and public ceremonies celebrating the country’s independence and the city’s role in the American Revolution.
Participants dressed in colonial-era clothing marched through central Boston carrying American flags, while musicians, historical groups and community members joined the procession. Residents and visitors gathered along the streets to watch the parade and take part in the Independence Day celebrations.
The official program included a ceremony at the Granary Burying Ground, the traditional public reading of the Declaration of Independence from the balcony of the Old State House and an Independence Day address at Faneuil Hall.
Patriotic activities were also held around Castle Island and Fort Independence, where visitors gathered near historic cannons and American flags. The area served as one of the viewing locations for the traditional 21-gun salute linked to the USS Constitution’s annual July 4 journey through Boston Harbor.
July 4 commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, when the 13 American colonies declared their separation from British rule. The 2026 observance held special importance as it marked 250 years since the historic declaration.
The celebration highlighted Boston’s connection to American history while bringing together families, tourists and local communities through parades, cultural programs and historic public traditions.
