US-Bangla plane crash at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA)

March 12, 2018: Forty-nine people died when a US-Bangla airlines plane crashed at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu on Monday afternoon.

 

There were 71 people including four crew members on board the 78-seater Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 aircraft that took off from Dhaka, Bangladesh. The plane crashed at 2:18 pm local time. 

 

22 injured passengers are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in Kathmandu. 

TIA said there were 37 males, 27 females and two child onboard the aircraft. There were 33 Nepali passengers.

 

US-Bangla plane crashed due to missed approach: TIA

 

Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) General Manager Rajkumar Chhetri said the US-Bangla plane crashed at Kathmandu airport due to missed approach. According to Chhetri "The plane flew past just above the air-traffic control tower during its descent for landing. It touched down the ground just next to a parked plane and ploughed through a fence on the east side of the airport, and plunged into the lower ground."
