US Charter Plane Makes Surprise stop in Pokhara

Pokhara: A US-registered light charter aircraft made an unexpected stop at Pokhara International Airport on Tuesday after flying from Bangkok via Dhaka, with no passengers on board except its flight crew. The purpose of the visit has not been officially disclosed, raising curiosity over the aircraft’s itinerary.

According to Pokhara International Airport Chief Jagannath Niraula, the aircraft, a Cirrus SR22 bearing the US registration N-555VG, arrived in Pokhara from Bangkok with a transit stop in Dhaka. The crew will remain overnight in Pokhara before departing for Lahore, Pakistan, on Wednesday.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) authorized the flight under permit number CAAN-FP 663/2026, classifying it as a charter operation. The flight is being operated through OAC Aviation Pvt. Ltd.

The Cirrus SR22 is a single-engine light aircraft widely used for private travel, business charters, aerial surveys, executive transportation, pilot training, and other specialized aviation missions. The aircraft has a maximum takeoff weight of 1,542 kilograms and is being flown by Captain Yang Kuang Ying. Its registration prefix “N” indicates that it is registered in the United States.

Airport officials confirmed that the aircraft neither dropped off passengers in Pokhara nor is scheduled to pick up any passengers before continuing its journey. Only the flight crew is currently on board.

Despite the confirmed flight route of Bangkok–Dhaka–Pokhara–Lahore, authorities have not disclosed why the aircraft came to Pokhara, why it is staying overnight, or the purpose of its onward flight to Pakistan. Neither the operator nor the relevant aviation authorities have released additional details regarding the charter mission.

The unusual routing and lack of publicly available information have drawn attention, although officials have emphasized that the flight was operating with the required authorization and no irregularities have been reported.
