Visa Opens Office in Kathmandu, Appoints Manoj Thapa to Lead Nepal Operations
Kathmandu – Global digital payments leader Visa Inc. has officially established its presence in Nepal with the opening of a dedicated office in Kathmandu. The move marks a significant step in Visa’s efforts to support Nepal’s transition toward a cashless economy by expanding access to secure and innovative digital payment solutions.
The new Kathmandu office signals Visa’s long-term commitment to the country’s digital transformation, aiming to empower consumers, merchants, and financial institutions with seamless payment infrastructure.
As part of the expansion, Visa has also appointed Manoj Thapa as the Head of Visa Nepal. In his new role, Thapa will be responsible for building local partnerships, driving adoption of digital payments, and supporting initiatives focused on financial inclusion and small business empowerment. He will report directly to Sabbir Ahmed, Visa’s Country Manager for Bangladesh, Nepal, and Bhutan.

Born in Nepal, Thapa brings more than a decade of experience in the payments and fintech sector. He previously led cross-border payment projects and strategic partnerships as Head of Partnerships & Innovation at Fonepay, and also held leadership roles in India at LivQuik Technology Pvt. Ltd., where he contributed to the company’s business growth through key development initiatives.
