Nepal starts export of “Center Fruit” chewing gum to India
Kathmandu-Nepal has officially entered the international confectionery market with the export of its locally produced “Center Fruit” chewing gum to India. The development marks a significant milestone for Nepal’s manufacturing and export sector, as domestically produced chewing gum has now reached foreign markets for the first time on a commercial scale. The company behind the product announced that the first shipment of approximately 8.5 metric tons has already been exported to India, while preparations are underway to export an additional 450 metric tons within the next seven months.
The chewing gum is being produced under the popular “Center Fruit” and “Center Fresh” brands at a factory established in Nepal with an investment of nearly NPR 400 million. According to company officials, commercial production officially began in February 2023 after the company received operational approval in the Nepali fiscal year 2079 BS. The Department of Industry has authorized the factory to produce up to 1,175 metric tons annually, reflecting the company’s large-scale production ambitions and long-term plans for market expansion.
Industry representatives have described the export as a major achievement for Nepal’s growing manufacturing sector. They stated that the successful entry into the Indian market demonstrates the improving quality and competitiveness of Nepali-made consumer products. Officials also expressed optimism that Nepal has strong potential to expand exports of processed and packaged goods in the coming years, particularly in neighboring countries.
The company believes that increasing exports will not only strengthen Nepal’s industrial sector but also create employment opportunities and contribute to the national economy through foreign currency earnings. With demand for confectionery products steadily growing in regional markets, the company plans to further increase production capacity and explore new export destinations in the future.
