Kathmandu – Consumers making eligible digital payments through Khalti can now automatically enter Nepal Government’s Taxpayer Incentive Gift Programme 2083, giving them a chance to win Rs 1 lakh every day and a Rs 10 lakh bumper prize every 15 days. The initiative, introduced by the Inland Revenue Department (IRD), aims to encourage digital payments, increase tax compliance, and reduce revenue leakage.
Under the scheme, individuals who make digital payments exceeding Rs 100 for personal purchases within Nepal are automatically eligible when paying through Khalti. Unlike cash transactions, which require customers to manually submit invoice details through the IRD portal, eligible Khalti payments are entered into the draw automatically without any additional registration.
However, certain transactions are excluded from the programme. Business purchases, invoices issued to government institutions, payments for telephone, internet, electricity, fuel, vehicles, airline tickets, and purchases from sellers without a Permanent Account Number (PAN) do not qualify. Each eligible transaction can only be entered once.
The Inland Revenue Department will conduct automated draws on the 1st and 16th of every month, selecting one daily winner for each qualifying day and one bumper winner every fortnight. Winners will be notified through their registered mobile number and email, while their names will also be published on the department’s official platforms. Prize amounts are subject to the applicable 25% windfall gain tax as required by law.
According to the government, the programme is designed to encourage consumers to request proper bills, promote digital transactions, and strengthen Nepal’s formal economy by improving transparency in commercial transactions.
