Kathmandu — Nepal welcomed 88,680 tourists in August 2025, marking a 22 percent increase compared to the same month last year, according to the latest figures released by the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) on Monday.
India remained the largest source market, contributing 35,505 visitors, or 40 percent of the total arrivals. China followed with 7,533 visitors (8.5 percent), while the United States accounted for 6,068 visitors (6.8 percent). Sri Lanka contributed 5,956 (6.7 percent) and Bangladesh 4,262 (4.8 percent).
Between January and August 2025, Nepal recorded 736,562 tourist arrivals. Regionally, South Asian countries (SAARC) accounted for the majority with 47,137 visitors (53 percent). Other parts of Asia contributed 15,777 arrivals (17.8 percent), followed by Europe with 11,132 (12.6 percent) and Oceania with 2,435 (2.7 percent). Similarly, 7,293 tourists (8.2 percent) came from the Americas, 944 (1.1 percent) from the Middle East, 322 (0.4 percent) from Africa, and 3,640 (4.1 percent) from other countries.
In July 2025, Nepal had recorded 70,193 tourist arrivals, highlighting a steady month-on-month growth trend.
NTB’s Chief Executive Officer, Deepak Raj Joshi, said Nepal’s tourism industry, severely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, is steadily recovering. He noted that the addition of Air India Express flights has boosted Indian arrivals in particular.
“We are optimistic that the flow of tourists will continue to rise in the coming months,” Joshi added.
