Nepal Showcases Tourism Revival at Asian Tourism Fair in Dhaka
Dhaka, Bangladesh – Nepal has sent a strong message of readiness and resilience at the 12th Asian Tourism Fair in Dhaka, assuring international travelers, particularly from Bangladesh, that the country is open, safe, and fully prepared to welcome visitors.
The fair, held from September 18 to 20 at the International Convention City Bashundhara, brought together 150 organizations from eight countries with 180 booths featuring travel packages and services. Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), supported by the Embassy of Nepal in Dhaka, led a delegation of ten prominent Nepali travel and tour operators, marking one of the first major international tourism events for Nepal since the September 8–9 Gen Z protests.
Nepal’s Ambassador to Bangladesh Ghanshyam Bhandari addressed the opening ceremony, highlighting the resilience of Nepal’s tourism industry and its capacity for swift recovery despite political or economic challenges. He emphasized the growing tourism cooperation and people-to-people ties between Nepal and Bangladesh, calling for even stronger collaboration for the mutual benefit of both nations.
The centrally located Nepal pavilion quickly became one of the fair’s busiest attractions. Participating Nepali companies, including Himalayan Club Tours & Travel, Nepal Big Mountain Travel Company, The Trek Nepal, Go Nepal Travel Tours & Trekking, Snowy Horizon Treks & Expedition, Classical Adventure Nepal, Himmalagari Travel & Tours, Female Guide Kathmandu, Kathmandu Suite Home, and Regulus Treks & Expedition, used the event to explore new business opportunities, renew partnerships, and promote fresh travel packages.
Many Bangladeshi visitors expressed curiosity about Nepal’s situation following the recent protests, but said they were reassured by the country’s rapid return to normal. Several compared Nepal’s political developments with their own nation’s recent events and confirmed that their travel plans remained unchanged.
Bangladesh is emerging as one of Nepal’s fastest-growing tourist markets. NTB data shows that Nepal welcomed about 49,000 Bangladeshi visitors in 2024, while the first eight months of 2025 have already seen a 32 percent increase in arrivals. Geographic proximity, cultural similarities, and Bangladesh’s expanding middle- and upper-income demographics make the market especially promising for Nepal’s tourism sector.
According to NTB officials, Nepal’s active participation in the Dhaka fair has strengthened bilateral tourism ties and underscored Nepal’s image as a secure, welcoming, and accessible destination for travelers from Bangladesh and beyond.
