Nepali Students Embark on Cultural and Educational Journey in China
Four students from the China Cultural Center in Nepal successfully participated in the 2025 International Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship Program, organized by the Beijing International Chinese College (BICC). Held from December 6 to December 29, 2025, the program offered the students a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in both the Chinese language and culture, creating experiences they will cherish for a lifetime.
Exploring Beijing’s Iconic Landmarks
During their three-week stay, the students visited some of Beijing’s most iconic sites, gaining firsthand insight into China’s rich history and vibrant modern life. They walked along the Great Wall, an enduring symbol of Chinese resilience and architectural achievement. At Tiananmen Square, they witnessed the heart of China’s modern political and cultural identity, while the Temple of Heaven provided a glimpse into the grandeur of ancient Chinese religious and architectural traditions.
The students also explored the lively Hongqiao Market, a hub of local trade and culture, and admired the Bird’s Nest, the renowned stadium of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Moments of relaxation and natural beauty were found at Beihai Park, while the neighborhoods of Houhai and Nanluoguxiang offered a vivid blend of historic courtyards and contemporary life, giving the students a sense of the daily rhythm and cultural vibrancy of Beijing.
Hands-On Cultural Experiences
The program went beyond sightseeing, engaging students in practical cultural experiences that deepened their understanding of Chinese traditions. In the Chinese Paper-Cutting Culture Class, they learned to create intricate designs, a practice that symbolizes good luck and celebration. During Chinese Festival and Knot teaching activities, the students explored how carefully crafted knots represent unity, harmony, and prosperity, often used in festivals and family ceremonies.
At the Chinese Character Culture Experience Park, the students traced the evolution of Chinese writing, connecting with the historical and aesthetic significance of the language. They also participated in the Thread-Bound Book Experience, discovering the ancient art of traditional bookmaking and gaining an appreciation for China’s literary heritage.
Cultural and Linguistic Enrichment
The program provided the students with a holistic educational experience, combining language study with cultural immersion. Beyond improving their proficiency in Chinese, the students developed a deeper understanding of China’s history, customs, and societal values, while engaging actively with the lively urban culture of Beijing.
This scholarship program highlights the importance of cross-cultural exchange, fostering stronger ties between Nepal and China. For these students, it was an invaluable opportunity to explore, learn, and experience the richness of Chinese culture firsthand, equipping them with insights and skills that will benefit their academic, professional, and personal growth.
