New Chinese envoy Zhang Maoming arrives in Kathmandu
Kathmandu – Nepal’s newly appointed Chinese ambassador, His Excellency Mr. Zhang Maoming, arrived in Kathmandu on Friday morning to formally assume his duties.
His Excellency Mr. Zhang landed at Tribhuvan International Airport at 11:30 am. He was appointed as China’s ambassador to Nepal in the third week of Poush (mid-December to mid-January) and will be taking over diplomatic responsibilities from outgoing ambassador His Excellency Mr. Chen Song, who completed a three-year tenure in Nepal and returned to China after being promoted.
Before his appointment to Nepal, His Excellency Mr. Zhang served as Deputy Director-General of the Asian Affairs Department at China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a role that typically involves regional diplomatic engagement and coordination across Asian countries.
As part of diplomatic protocol, His Excellency Mr. Zhang is scheduled to present his letter of credence (credentials) to President Ram Chandra Paudel, formally confirming his position as China’s official representative to Nepal.
His Excellency Mr. Zhang is considered familiar with Nepal’s political and diplomatic landscape. He has previously participated in various meetings and interactions with Nepali officials and political leaders, which is expected to support smoother engagement during his tenure in Kathmandu.
