Nepal opens listing for health institutions for foreign employment medical tests
Kathmandu – The Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security has decided to open the listing process for approved health institutions to conduct medical examinations of workers going for foreign employment.
Minister Deepak Kumar Sah made the decision at the ministerial level, allowing health institutions that are either government approved or government owned to be eligible for listing.
The ministry said the necessary process for listing has already been initiated. At present, around 250 health institutions and government hospitals are conducting medical examinations of migrant workers across the country.
According to existing provisions, only workers who pass medical tests from listed health institutions are eligible to go for foreign employment.
As per the Foreign Employment Act 2007 and its regulations, workers must undergo medical examinations at approved health institutions before leaving the country.
Interested health institutions can now apply for listing by fulfilling the required criteria. As per the guidelines on listing, renewal and monitoring, new health institutions will also be included after completing the process.
The move is expected to expand access to medical testing services and improve the management of foreign employment procedures in Nepal.
