Shakya reacts on Fewa lake structure removal, Claims hotel meets all standards
Kathmandu – Tourism entrepreneur Karna Shakya has claimed that his “Waterfront Hotel” in Pokhara has not encroached on any land, following action taken by Pokhara Metropolitan City to demolish parts of the property.
The metropolitan office removed sections of the hotel structure on Saturday, stating that they fell within the designated boundary of Fewa Lake. In response, Shakya publicly clarified that the hotel was built in full compliance with legal requirements.
According to him, the hotel possesses all necessary documents, including land ownership certificates, approved building plans, tourism licenses, industry registration, and central bank authorization. He also stated that all taxes have been paid regularly and that the business has no outstanding bank loans.
Shakya argued that the hotel is located 65 meters away from the lake, in line with existing standards. He expressed dissatisfaction over the demolition, claiming it was carried out without prior notice.
Questioning the authorities’ actions, he said that many settlements, businesses, and hotels exist in the Lakeside area, and removing structures without due process or compensation raises concerns about fairness.
He further described the Waterfront Hotel as more than just a business, calling it a symbol of long-term investment, struggle, and belief in Nepal’s tourism sector.
Meanwhile, the government has intensified efforts to clear encroachments around Fewa Lake, in line with a Supreme Court directive and its policy to remove illegal structures in the area.
