Nepal to print driving licenses within 24 hours, New system launched
Kathmandu-Nepal has introduced a new system to print driving licenses within 24 hours of passing the trial and paying the required fees, aiming to end long delays in license distribution.
Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Dr. Bikram Timilsina, announced that the system came into effect today during his inspection of the Security Printing Center in Panauti-5, Kavre. He directed officials to speed up printing and ensure efficient service delivery.
The government has set a target to clear all pending licenses by the end of Asar. Currently, the center prints around 40,000 licenses daily, prioritizing those needed for citizens traveling abroad. Authorities aim to print 1.2 million licenses by Baisakh 12 and complete the remaining 1.7 million by the deadline.
The minister also emphasized better use of equipment worth around Rs 1 billion that had remained unused for a long time, ensuring effective utilization moving forward.
Executive Director Devaraj Dhungana stated that the center is working on long-term improvements and plans to expand its capacity to print passports, chequebooks, smart cards, postal stamps, and excise stickers in the future.
The government has also instructed the center to prioritize data security and deliver more citizen-friendly services.
