Nepal won’t Allow its territory to be used against neighbours, says Finance Minister Wagle
Kathmandu-Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle has reaffirmed that Nepal will not allow its territory to be used against neighboring countries, underscoring the government’s commitment to maintaining balanced and peaceful regional relations.
He made the remarks on Wednesday evening in Kathmandu during a cultural program titled “Voice of Spring: Travelling Across Inner Mongolia with Songs,” organized by the Chinese Embassy. The event brought together senior Nepali officials, members of the Chinese community, and other distinguished guests.
In his keynote speech, Dr. Wagle highlighted Nepal’s priority of achieving shared prosperity through increased Chinese investment and stronger cultural ties. He described China as a reliable development partner and expressed appreciation for its continued support in Nepal’s socio-economic progress.
The finance minister voiced confidence that Nepal–China relations will continue to deepen, pointing to shared geographical and cultural connections. He also emphasized the importance of cultural exchanges, noting the richness of Inner Mongolia’s traditions.
Dr. Wagle acknowledged China’s role in helping transform Nepal from a landlocked to a land-linked country and said Nepal aims to learn from China’s development model. He referenced several Chinese-supported infrastructure projects, including the Ring Road expansion, the Kerung–Kathmandu road, railway feasibility studies, Madan Bhandari University, and the Civil Service Hospital.
He further mentioned ongoing discussions to expand cooperation in sectors such as banking, agriculture, and tourism, adding that the government remains committed to good governance, economic growth, and national development.
At the same event, National Assembly Vice Chairperson Leela Kumari Bhandari reiterated Nepal’s adherence to the One-China policy and called for further strengthening of bilateral ties based on the Panchsheel principles. She expressed appreciation for China’s longstanding support, noting that relations between the two countries have steadily grown over the past seven decades.

Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Zhang Maoming also spoke at the program, praising Nepal’s cultural heritage and natural beauty. He reaffirmed China’s commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with Nepal and supporting its development through initiatives such as the Belt and Road Initiative. He added that China’s 15th Five-Year Plan is expected to contribute to regional development, including that of neighboring countries.
The event concluded with cultural performances by artists from Inner Mongolia, attended by ministers, former prime ministers, political leaders, diplomats, media representatives, and members of the public.
