Jumla-Rara ultra marathon unveils trophy and medals for seventh edition
Jumla-The trophy and medals for the seventh edition of the Jumla-Rara Ultra Marathon have been officially unveiled ahead of the competition scheduled for Baisakh 26.
Chief District Officer of Jumla, Deepak Paudel, and Olympian as well as Everest Marathon hat-trick winner Hari Bahadur Rokaya jointly unveiled the trophy and medals.According to Karnali Sports Club Jumla, athletes from Nepal, India, Italy, and France will participate in the 51-kilometer ultra marathon race. The event will also feature 10-kilometer and 5-kilometer races. Organizers said around 600 students are expected to participate in the 5-kilometer category.
In the 51-kilometer race, the winner will receive a cash prize of Rs. 100,000, while the second and third-place finishers will receive Rs. 75,000 and Rs. 50,000 respectively. The fourth and fifth-place finishers will each be awarded Rs. 20,000.Additionally, the children of the late Amrita Kathayat (Basnet) will provide an extra Rs. 25,000 each to the first and second-place female athletes in the 51-kilometer category in memory of their mother.
Similarly, in the 10-kilometer race for participants under 18 years of age, the top three winners will receive Rs. 10,000, Rs. 7,000, and Rs. 5,000 respectively. In the 5-kilometer race, the top three participants will receive Rs. 5,000, Rs. 3,000, and Rs. 2,000 respectively.Organizer and President of Karnali Sports Club, Saroj Shahi, said the event is being organized to promote the natural beauty of the Karnali region and adventure sports tourism. He also shared plans to plant trees equal to the number of participants who successfully complete the race from Jumla to Rara Lake.
