Rato Machhindranath Chariot to be Pulled to Jawalakhel on June 17
Kathmandu-The auspicious time to pull the chariot of Rato Machhindranath Jatra from Lagankhel to Jawalakhel has been fixed for Asar 3 (June 17).The date was determined on Thursday morning by four astrologers who gathered at Manimandap in Mangalbazaar, Lalitpur. According to tradition, the auspicious time for taking the chariot to Jawalakhel is decided on the first Thursday following the completion of the coconut-dropping ritual.
The chariot procession, which began from Pulchowk, reached Lagankhel after passing through Gabahal and Sundhara. As per long-standing tradition, the chariot can only be taken to Jawalakhel after an official auspicious time is set by astrologers. The chariots of Rato Machhindranath and Minnath will remain at Thati Tol in Patan until the afternoon of Asar 3. Four days after the chariot reaches Jawalakhel, the famous Bhoto Jatra ritual will be observed, marking the conclusion of the festival.
