Government Unveils Plan to Develop Nepal as AI and tech Hub
Kathmandu-The government has adopted a policy to develop Nepal as a center for information technology and innovation. The policy and program emphasize developing Nepal into a “tech hub” with a focus on artificial intelligence (AI), green computing, and digital service exports.
The government has also introduced policies to establish high-capacity data centers, increase government co-investment in the information technology sector, and provide tax incentives for research and innovation.
Presenting the government’s policies and programs at a joint session of the Federal Parliament today, President Ram Chandra Paudel said that youths returning from foreign employment would be encouraged to engage in the agricultural sector. The government has also pledged to promote the reduction of pesticide use in agricultural production, distribute farmer identity cards, and simplify access to concessional loans and agricultural support programs.
The government further announced that loans, private sector investment, and foreign assistance in the upcoming fiscal year would be directed toward projects with high returns. The policy and program also state that investment will be prioritized in productive infrastructure and economic sectors that provide long-term benefits.
