Nepal Pushes Nature, Culture & Community-Based Wellness Tourism Strategy
Kathmandu – Nepal has stressed the importance of promoting wellness tourism through the country’s nature, culture, originality, and community-based experiences to establish itself as a global wellness destination. Speaking at an interaction program on wellness tourism organized at the Nepal Tourism Board on Thursday, Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Secretary Mukunda Prasad Niraula said the government is actively implementing Nepal’s Wellness Tourism Strategy and preparing for the already announced “Wellness Tourism Year 2027.”
Acting CEO of the Nepal Tourism Board Hikmat Singh Ayer stated that Nepal is naturally one of the world’s most unique destinations for wellness travel, adding that wellness is not just a service but a lifestyle deeply connected with Nepal’s culture, traditions, and natural environment.
During the program, Professor Dr. Deniz Kucukusta from the School of Hotel and Tourism Management under Hong Kong Polytechnic University presented on “Nepal: Sacred Land to Wellness Destination.” She highlighted that modern travelers are increasingly seeking healing, spiritual balance, nature-based wellness, forest therapy, and digital detox experiences, adding that Nepal already possesses the originality needed to become a leading wellness tourism destination.
Yoga expert Dr. Prakash Acharya also emphasized the importance of yoga and pranayama, while wellness advocate Prerna Shah stated that Nepal should be promoted globally not only as a trekking destination but also as a wellness destination rooted in its own culture, lifestyle, and traditions.
The program also included a sound healing session and participation from tourism officials, wellness experts, tourism entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders focused on strengthening Nepal’s position in the global wellness tourism market.
