Lumbini Tech and Upcode Nepal partner to digitize waste management
Kathmandu: Lumbini Tech Innovation Center and Upcode Nepal have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop and implement a digital waste management system in Nepal.
The partnership aims to use technology to improve waste collection, tracking, processing, and management. The system is expected to help municipalities, private waste collectors, recycling centres, corporate offices, and local communities manage waste in a more organized and transparent way.
According to Dhan Bahadur Rana, Founder Chairperson of Lumbini Tech Innovation Center, digitizing waste management is an important step toward building cleaner and smarter communities in Nepal. He said the use of technology in public services can help create a more sustainable digital ecosystem.
The digital waste management platform will replace traditional and unorganized waste handling methods with a more systematic process. It will support real-time monitoring, route planning, collection updates, citizen feedback, and data-based decision-making for local authorities and service providers.
Mangal Pradhan, Founder and Technical Director of Upcode Nepal, said the system is designed to bring practical benefits at the grassroots level. He said the technology will help local waste collectors, households, and communities take part in responsible waste management.
The platform will be available as both a web application and a mobile application. Its key features include vehicle route optimization, collection scheduling, recycling tracking, supervisor dashboards, and transparent reporting.
The system is also expected to reduce fuel costs, improve collection efficiency, increase recycling rates, and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfills.
With this partnership, Lumbini Tech Innovation Center and Upcode Nepal aim to support Nepal’s move toward smart city solutions, cleaner communities, and more efficient public service management through digital innovation.
