Pokhara International Airport Offers Fee Waivers to Welcome More Global Airlines

Kathmandu-The Nepali government has introduced a range of incentives aimed at attracting international airlines to Pokhara International Airport, raising hopes for increased global connectivity from the country’s tourism capital.

At its Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, the government approved a full waiver of landing, parking, and air navigation charges for international airlines operating from the airport until the end of mid-September. In addition, airlines will receive a 50 percent discount on ground handling fees.

Pokhara Metropolitan City Mayor Dhanraj Acharya welcomed the decision, saying the incentives would encourage airlines to launch new international routes and help expand regular services, including the upcoming Pokhara-Dubai connection.

“This will support tourism promotion, improve air connectivity, and contribute to broader economic growth,” Acharya said.
The announcement comes ahead of Flydubai’s planned direct flights between Pokhara and Dubai, scheduled to begin on September 23 (7 Ashoj). The new route will connect Pokhara directly to Dubai, one of the world’s busiest aviation hubs, offering easier onward travel to destinations across Europe, North America, and beyond.

Despite opening nearly three years ago, Pokhara International Airport has yet to establish regular international commercial operations. The launch of Flydubai’s service is expected to mark a significant milestone for the airport.
Airport General Manager Jagannath Niraula confirmed that Flydubai has already opened ticket bookings after receiving approval for its Dubai–Pokhara–Dubai flight schedule. He said the direct service would reduce both travel time and costs for passengers traveling abroad for employment, education, business, or tourism.

The new route is also expected to make it easier for international visitors to fly directly into Pokhara, providing a boost to tourism in the city and surrounding destinations.Earlier this year, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) granted Flydubai permission to operate daily flights on the Dubai-Pokhara route, with the airline now moving ahead with preparations for the service launch.
