KATHMANDU: Aayam Intercontinental, a company under Himalayan Organisation, has introduced two Dongfeng electric bus models in Nepal at the NAIMA Auto Expo being held at Bhrikutimandap, Kathmandu, expanding the range of large electric commercial vehicles available in the country.
The company has unveiled two 7.2-metre electric buses—a 25+1-seat comfort bus and a 27+1-seat city bus. Prices start at NPR 11.45 million, while the first 50 customers who book a bus during the expo will receive a special discount of NPR 500,000.
According to the company, the buses come with a warranty of five years or 200,000 kilometres. Customers can also purchase an additional three-year extended warranty. The models currently displayed at the expo do not include air conditioning as standard, but buyers can add air conditioning and luxury seating based on their requirements.
Customers can also choose between one- and two-door configurations at no additional installation cost. However, selecting the two-door layout will reduce the seating capacity by two seats.
Dongfeng Motor Corporation, established in 1969, is one of China’s major automobile manufacturers. Its portfolio includes passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, buses, trucks, electric vehicles and automotive components, with products sold across numerous international markets. Dongfeng-branded cars, trucks and microbuses have also previously been available in Nepal.
Aayam Intercontinental said the introduction of the electric buses comes amid growing demand for larger electric public and commercial transport options in Nepal and increasing policy attention toward electric mobility.
The company also plans to expand the Dongfeng bus lineup in Nepal with a 7.2-metre school bus, a 9-metre model with 38 seats and a larger 12-metre bus with 52 seats. Pricing and detailed specifications for these upcoming models will be announced later.
After-sales support and spare parts for Dongfeng buses will be provided through Himalayan Organisation’s branches and dealer network in different cities across Nepal, according to the company.
With the launch, Dongfeng is positioning its electric buses as a new option for operators seeking larger-capacity electric transport solutions in Nepal’s growing EV market.
