Kathmandu – Candlelight vigils were organised in different parts of Nepal to honour the victims of the devastating August 26 Bhotekoshi River flood and landslide disaster, which caused significant loss of lives and damage in Rasuwa and surrounding areas.
People gathered at several locations, including the Nepal Tourism Board, Chhauni, Imadol and Lubhu, to remember those who lost their lives in the disaster. Participants lit candles, observed moments of silence and expressed solidarity with families affected by the tragedy and those still waiting for news of their missing loved ones.
The disaster, triggered by severe flooding in the Bhotekoshi River area near the Nepal–China border, resulted in deaths, disappearances and widespread damage to homes, roads, bridges and other infrastructure. Search and rescue operations have continued in affected areas, with security agencies and rescue teams working to locate missing people and provide support to survivors.
The candlelight gatherings reflected public grief and collective remembrance while also highlighting the need for continued relief, recovery and rehabilitation efforts for communities impacted by the disaster.
Similar memorial events were held in various parts of Nepal as people came together to pay tribute to the victims and stand in support of families facing the difficult aftermath of the flood tragedy.
