Kathmandu – A major art exhibition titled “Deities of Nepal III: Lore and Legends” has opened at the Nepal Art Council, Babarmahal, Kathmandu, showcasing Nepal’s rich religious traditions, mythology and cultural stories through contemporary and traditional artworks.
The third edition of the exhibition presents the connection between Nepal’s deities, folklore and everyday cultural practices through artworks created by 157 artists featuring 285 artworks. The exhibition aims to explore the stories, myths and legends associated with Nepal’s divine figures while highlighting the role of artists as storytellers and preservers of cultural knowledge.
According to the organisers, the exhibition goes beyond portraying deities as religious symbols and focuses on the deeper cultural meanings, community memories and traditional knowledge connected with them. The artworks combine traditional practices with contemporary artistic expressions, addressing themes such as heritage, environment, coexistence and social perspectives.
The exhibition features works from artists across Nepal, representing different forms of art including paintings, sculptures and mixed-media creations. It is curated under the leadership of Lead Curator Swosti Rajbhandari Kayastha with Pranab Man Singh as co-curator, supported by a curatorial team.
Visitors can explore the exhibition at the Nepal Art Council from September 17 to October 10, 2026, from 10:30 AM to 5:30 PM. The programme also includes cultural activities and knowledge-sharing sessions designed to connect visitors with Nepal’s artistic heritage and spiritual traditions.
The Deities of Nepal series, organised by the Nepal Art Council, continues its effort to preserve and promote Nepal’s art, culture and heritage by providing a platform for artists to reinterpret traditional stories through modern artistic approaches.
