The decision followed talks between Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Deepak Kumar Sah and Chinese officials, with the Chinese side agreeing to the temporary reopening in response to a formal request from Nepal.
The move is intended to facilitate the movement of freight vehicles and containers stranded on the Chinese side of the border, helping ease supply constraints and reduce concerns over potential shortages and price hikes during the festive period.
Only cargo trucks and freight vehicles that have already completed customs clearance procedures will be permitted to cross during the temporary reopening. The measure is expected to help deliver clothing, fruits and other essential goods to Nepali markets, providing relief to traders and consumers.
The Tatopani crossing is a key trade route between Nepal and China, making its operation important for cross-border commerce and the timely supply of Chinese goods to Nepal.
