4th Mt. Everest International Taekwondo Championship announced for November 2024
Kathmandu: The Nepal Taekwondo Association is set to host the ‘4th Mount Everest International Taekwondo Championship’ from 8 to 13 November 2024 (Kartik 23 to 28, 2081 B.S.). This highly anticipated event, recognized with a G1 ranking by World Taekwondo, will take place at the covered hall of the National Sports Council in Tripureshwor, Kathmandu.
Over 2,000 athletes from approximately 25 countries, including South Asian nations, are expected to compete in the championship. This international competition has grown significantly since its inception, with the first edition held in 2011, the second in Kathmandu in 2013, and the third in Pokhara in 2022. The association aims to make this fourth edition even more grand and impactful.
A 35-member main organizing committee, led by the Prakash Shamsher Rana, President has been formed to oversee the event. Given the enthusiastic participation and attendance in previous editions, this year’s championship is expected to attract even more remarkable participation.
An international technical team, along with technical and judging staff from the association, will be deployed to ensure the smooth conduct of the event. The estimated total cost of the championship is around NPR 30 million, which will be sourced mainly from player registration fees, advertisements, grants, and donations.
The championship, recognized with a G1 ranking, is seen as a significant opportunity for athletes from Nepal and other countries. The competition will feature Cadet, Junior, Senior Poomsae, and Junior and Senior Kyorugi categories, promising an exciting and diverse range of matches.
