Basic swimming instructor training concludes in Kathmandu
A basic swimming instructor training organized by the Nepal Swimming Association has concluded. The training took place on Saturday at the association’s office in Satdobato, with the Chief Guest being Mohan Bahadur Basnet, former Minister of Health and a central member of the Nepali Congress.
In his address, Basnet praised the Swimming Association for organizing the training, considering the current situation in the country. “Given the present circumstances, I want to thank the Swimming Association for organizing this training,” Basnet said. “Every village needs a swimming pool. If we build swimming pools in every village, people who fall into rivers during vehicle accidents would be able to survive.”
Basnet also advised the newly elected team of the Swimming Association to continue their excellent work and pledged his support for the association’s efforts.
Jagatman Shrestha, President of the Swimming Association, highlighted the increasing demand for swimming instructors in Nepal. He pointed out that improper construction of swimming pools has led to fatalities. “Recently, there have been deaths in swimming pools because they were not built to standard specifications,” Shrestha said. He emphasized the need for pools to be constructed according to expert advice to ensure safety.
Ishwar Man Karki, the chief trainer of the program and also the Secretary of the association, stressed the importance of swimming for maintaining health. “People exercise and play various sports to stay fit. However, injuries are common in other sports. Swimming, once learned, reduces the risk of injuries and is also a skill that can bring fame and benefits,” Karki added.
The training, which started on August 13, had 30 participants. Certificates were distributed to the participants by Chief Guest Basnet.
