Bajaj targets 2028 for First Electric Motorcycle launch amid EV Expansion
Kathmandu: Bajaj Auto has announced plans to launch its first electric motorcycle by 2028, marking a major step in the company’s long-term electric mobility strategy. Development of the motorcycle is currently progressing rapidly, with the company planning to introduce the model in international markets before expanding to other regions.
The company is steadily broadening its electric vehicle portfolio, which already includes electric scooters and electric three-wheelers. Bajaj plans to bring its future electric scooter, electric motorcycle, electric three-wheeler and e-rickshaw models under a unified EV portfolio as it strengthens its position in the growing electric mobility market.
According to Bajaj, the move is strategically important as Delhi’s Electric Vehicle Policy 2026 proposes banning the registration of new petrol and CNG-powered two-wheelers from April 1, 2028. The policy is expected to accelerate demand for electric motorcycles, making the segment an important growth opportunity for manufacturers.
To meet rising demand, Bajaj plans to increase its production capacity by around 20 percent. The first phase, accounting for a 10 percent expansion, is expected to be completed within the next three to four months, while the remaining capacity expansion is scheduled to finish by the first quarter of 2028.
Alongside its EV ambitions, Bajaj will continue investing in its conventional motorcycle business. The company is preparing to launch new 125cc to 160cc Pulsar models in the coming months, noting that demand for motorcycles above 125cc is growing at nearly twice the average market growth rate.
With investments in both electric and petrol-powered motorcycles, Bajaj aims to strengthen its presence across multiple two-wheeler segments. The company’s expansion plans are expected to intensify competition in the electric motorcycle market over the next few years.
