Kathmandu – Large numbers of devotees have gathered at Shakti Peeths and temples dedicated to Goddess Durga in the Kathmandu Valley to offer prayers on Maha Ashtami, one of the most important days of Bada Dashain.
Long queues have been seen at Naxal Bhagwati, Guhyeshwari, Maitidevi, Kalikasthan, Bhadrakali, Naradevi, Raktakali, Shobha Bhagwati and Indrayani temples, among other sacred sites across the Valley.
Devotees have been visiting the temples since early morning with flowers, fruits, incense and other offerings. Special prayers and traditional rituals are also being performed at temples and homes in honour of Goddess Durga.
Dashain’s Navaratri observance begins with Ghatasthapana. Throughout the period, devotees worship different manifestations of Goddess Durga, including Mahakali, Mahalaxmi and Mahasaraswati.
The increased flow of devotees has created a vibrant spiritual atmosphere around Kathmandu’s major temples during the country’s biggest Hindu festival.
