Kathmandu – Kathmandu Metropolitan City has launched a motorcycle ambulance service to provide faster emergency healthcare in congested neighbourhoods and narrow alleys.
Acting Mayor Sunita Dangol said the service began operating on Friday. The motorcycle ambulances are expected to reach patients in areas where conventional four-wheeled ambulances face delays due to heavy traffic or limited road access.

The initiative aims to reduce emergency response time and provide patients with essential medical assistance before they are transferred to a hospital.
Kathmandu Metropolitan City already operates a free ambulance service in partnership with Nepal Ambulance Service. Residents can request emergency ambulance and medical assistance by calling 102.
The 102 service has also been expanded to other local governments in the Kathmandu Valley and was used to provide rescue and healthcare assistance during recent floods.
The city introduced the service as part of its broader effort to improve public access to emergency healthcare and strengthen coordination with hospitals and health institutions.
