Lalitpur – KIST Medical College and Teaching Hospital is preparing to launch “KIST at Home,” a new service designed to provide healthcare directly to patients at their homes.
The service will be introduced in collaboration with Health at Home Nepal. Through the initiative, the hospital’s specialist care, trained medical professionals, laboratory facilities and health testing services will be delivered to patients according to their needs.
“KIST at Home” will operate as an integrated healthcare unit of KIST Teaching Hospital. The hospital said the service aims to keep patients connected to continuous healthcare before, during and after treatment.
The service will include home nursing, doctor visits, physiotherapy, elderly care, post-surgical care, blood and other sample collection, chronic disease management, palliative care, vaccination, caregiver support, telemedicine and follow-up consultations.
Medical equipment will also be available for rent when required. Home-based intensive care, support for critically ill patients and patient transportation services will also be provided.
The service will include pre-hospital care. In emergencies, patients will be transported to the hospital by ambulance or another appropriate vehicle based on their condition. Patients receiving treatment at home will also be connected to hospital services if they require further medical care.
According to the hospital, patients receiving home healthcare will remain connected to KIST Teaching Hospital’s healthcare network. Specialist doctors, medical officers, nurses and other healthcare professionals will be deployed as required.
Blood and other samples collected at patients’ homes will be tested at KIST Teaching Hospital’s laboratory, and the reports will be provided to the patients. Their medical information will be managed through the hospital’s health information system while maintaining privacy and confidentiality.
The collaboration between KIST Teaching Hospital and Health at Home Nepal is expected to connect hospital-based treatment with home healthcare.
The service is expected to benefit elderly people, patients with chronic illnesses, those requiring physiotherapy or post-surgical monitoring, and people needing palliative or end-of-life care.
The hospital said the main objective of “KIST at Home” is to deliver quality healthcare services directly to patients’ doorsteps.
