Kathmandu to host Chinese Film showcase
Kathmandu- Kathmandu is set to host a special Chinese Film Festival from June 2 – 4, 2026 at QFX Cinemas, Chhaya Center, Thamel. The event is being organized by the Nepal Film and Cultural Academy in collaboration with the China flim Administration and Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF), supported by China Cultural Center in Nepal, Confucius Institude at Kathmandu University and Confucius Institude at Tribhuvan University.
The three-day festival, titled ”BJIFF Selected: Chinese Film Festival”, will showcase a selection of award-winning and internationally recognized Chinese films to Nepali audiences. The program is part of the “Tiantan Award Panorama” global screening initiative of the Beijing International Film Festival 2026.
According to the organizers, the festival aims to strengthen cultural exchange between Nepal and China through cinema while also giving local audiences an opportunity to experience diverse storytelling, filmmaking styles, and contemporary Chinese culture.
A total of nine films will be screened during the festival. The selected movies include Trapped, Beyond the Skies, Summer Diary, Strangers When We Meet, Where Echoes Never End, Floating Clouds Obscure the Sun, Lost in the Stars, The Shadowless Tower, and Journey to the West.
The films cover a wide range of genres including drama, suspense, crime, war, science fiction, and social storytelling. Many of the featured films have received recognition at international film festivals and are expected to attract cinema lovers, students, filmmakers, and cultural enthusiasts in Nepal.
Organizers stated that such events help promote international collaboration in the film industry and create opportunities for artistic and cultural understanding between different countries. The festival is also expected to encourage discussions around global cinema and inspire local filmmakers and audiences.
