Kathmandu to host first Sampada Padyatra Competition with 600 Scouts
Kathmandu: The Nepal Scouts Bagmati Province Local Scout Office, Kathmandu, is set to organize the first-ever “Sampada Padyatra Competition 2083” in Kathmandu this Friday.
The program is being organized in coordination and cooperation with the Education Department of Kathmandu Metropolitan City. The competition will target scouts from institutional and community schools operating inside the metropolitan area.
According to Rukhan Lal Shrestha, Chief Commissioner of the Local Scout Office Kathmandu, around 600 scout students from grades 8, 9 and 10 will take part in the competition. More than 30 organizations are expected to actively support and participate in the event.
The main objective of the program is to help students identify tangible and intangible heritage sites, understand the cultural importance of heritage located in inner streets and alleys, and encourage the new generation to take responsibility for heritage promotion and protection.
The competition will begin on Friday, Jestha 29, 2083, with participants gathering at Kumari Ghar, Dabali, at 7:00 AM. The event will be officially inaugurated at 7:30 AM, and the nearly 7-kilometer heritage walk is scheduled to conclude at 5:30 PM.
During the walk, participants will visit various historical and cultural locations in Kathmandu. The route will include seven major stations, where scouts will learn about the city’s heritage and cultural identity.
The organizers believe the competition will play an important role in promoting Kathmandu’s inner-city heritage, alleys, and traditional communities. The coordinator of the competition is Jaya Pratap Ale Magar, Local Commissioner for Local Governance, Resource Development and Finance of Local Scout Kathmandu.
