Kathmandu – Continuous landslides along the Tatopani border crossing have disrupted the arrival of vehicles destined for the NAIMA Nepal Mobility Expo 2026, with around two dozen vehicles stranded on the Chinese side of the border.
Automobile importers say the delays could affect the timely launch of several new vehicle models at the expo, which is scheduled to begin on August 11 in Kathmandu. Many of the stranded vehicles were expected to be showcased during the exhibition.
Industry representatives have urged the government to speed up road clearance and restore smooth cross-border transportation, warning that prolonged disruptions could impact the country’s automobile sector and delay deliveries to customers.
The Tatopani border route has faced repeated monsoon-related disruptions in recent weeks, highlighting the vulnerability of one of Nepal’s key trade corridors with China.
