Nepal Celebrates 99th Photojournalism Day, Announces Global Photo Conference
Kathmandu, The 99th National Photojournalism Day 2083 has concluded in Kathmandu with discussions on tourism promotion, photo copyright and the future of photojournalism.

The event, organized by the National Forum of Photojournalists (NFPJ) Nepal, also saw the release of the organization’s annual photo calendar.
An endowment fund of Rs 300,000 has also been established in memory of late wildlife photographer and NFPJ lifetime member Chungba Sherpa.
Speaking at the program, Chhabindra Parajuli, Director General of the Department of Information and Broadcasting, said Nepal’s photo bank would be established in collaboration with photojournalists. He said photos and videos are important tools for tourism promotion.
Press Council Nepal spokesperson Ramsharan Bohara raised concerns over the unauthorized use of photojournalists’ work and stressed the need to protect photo copyright.
Kathmandu Photographer Association President Anand Prabhakar Ghimire called for stronger cooperation among photography-related organizations, while former president Raj Bhai Suwal highlighted the need for technology-friendly skills in the age of AI.

NFPJ President Pradeep Raj Onta said photojournalists continue to face risks due to the lack of life, health and camera insurance. He also announced that an international photo conference will be organized with 100 photographers from different countries to promote Nepal’s tourism and expand global collaboration.
