Nepal Plans to Increase Quota for Foreign Medical Students
Kathmandu –The Government of Nepal is preparing to increase the quota for foreign students pursuing medical education in the country, citing growing international interest in Nepal’s medical institutions.
Speaking at a meeting of the National Assembly’s Development, Economic Affairs and Good Governance Committee on Tuesday, Education, Science and Sports Ministry Secretary Chudamani Paudel said the government is considering a policy decision to expand enrollment opportunities for international students in medical programs.Paudel also informed the committee that discussions are underway with the Ministry of Home Affairs to simplify student visa procedures for foreign nationals seeking higher education in Nepal.
According to the ministry, around 1,400 students from various countries are currently enrolled in Nepali universities, with medical education emerging as the most sought-after field among international students.Meanwhile, Secretary Paudel stated that the government aims to have the long-awaited Federal Education Act endorsed by Parliament within the next fiscal year. He expressed confidence that the legislation would help address persistent issues in the school education sector, including the shortage and distribution of teaching positions across the country.
