Kathmandu: Nepal welcomed 91,363 foreign tourists by air in June 2026, marking a 19.5 percent increase compared to the same month last year, according to data from the Department of Immigration released by the Nepal Tourism Board.
In June 2025, Nepal had received 76,425 tourists, while in June 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic, the number stood at 74,883. Compared to 2019, this year’s June arrivals increased by 22.01 percent, showing a strong recovery in Nepal’s tourism sector.
South Asia remained the largest source market, with 48,254 tourists from SAARC countries, accounting for 52.8 percent of total arrivals. India alone contributed 41,809 visitors. Nepal also received 8,875 tourists from China, along with visitors from Japan, South Korea and Thailand.

According to Nepal Tourism Board Senior Officer Santosh Bikram Thapa, the rise in arrivals is linked to improved international air connectivity, tourism promotion campaigns and Nepal’s growing image as a safe and attractive destination. The board is preparing further promotional activities in major markets, including India, China, the United States and Europe, for the upcoming tourism season.
