Nepal Shows Interest in Operating Flights from Bangladesh’s Saidpur Airport
Nepal has expressed interest in operating flights from Bangladesh’s Saidpur Airport, as part of efforts to strengthen regional connectivity and boost trade and tourism between the two countries.
According to The Daily Star, discussions are underway to expand cooperation with a focus on improving transport links and encouraging greater economic and tourism exchange.
Nepal’s Ambassador to Bangladesh, Ghanshyam Bhandari, raised the issue during a courtesy meeting in Dhaka with Bangladesh’s Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Afaroza Khanam Rita and State Minister M. Rashiduzzaman Millat. During the meeting, he conveyed Nepal’s interest in using Saidpur Airport for international flights.
Both sides emphasized the importance of further strengthening Nepal–Bangladesh relations. The Nepali delegation also highlighted the need to upgrade Saidpur Airport to international standards, noting that such a move could significantly support the growth of aviation and tourism in Nepal.
The talks also touched on the issue of airfare between Dhaka and Kathmandu, with both sides discussing ways to make ticket prices more reasonable. Lower fares are expected to encourage more travel and contribute to tourism development.
Overall, both countries expressed a positive outlook on expanding cooperation, particularly in tourism, and signaled their willingness to work together more closely in the future.
