Kathmandu — The Nepal Tourism Board is preparing to install and operate traditional Linge Ping (bamboo swings) at tourist destinations across the country during Dashain, aiming to promote Nepal’s cultural traditions while adding festive experiences for visitors.
The programme is being led by the Board’s Tourism Heritage and Tourism Development Division in coordination with local governments and tourism-related organisations. Swings will be installed at selected destinations in Kathmandu Valley and other parts of Nepal, particularly in areas that attract large numbers of visitors and provide suitable spaces for cultural activities.
The Board is working with organisations and local authorities including Lalitpur Metropolitan City, Kirtipur Municipality, Changunarayan Municipality, Bhaktapur Tourism Development Committee and Thamel Tourism Development Council, as well as tourism associations such as the Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN), Hotel Association Nepal and Hotel Entrepreneurs Federation. Similar cooperation is planned with tourism and hotel associations in different provinces.
Under the agreements, the traditional swings will remain in operation throughout the Dashain period. The initiative is intended to give both domestic and international visitors an opportunity to experience an important part of Nepal’s festive culture while encouraging tourism activities at participating destinations.
Safety and crowd management have also been included in the agreements. The concerned authorities and organisations will be responsible for ensuring proper construction, safety measures, crowd control and accident-prevention arrangements while the swings are in operation. After Dashain, the swings will be dismantled and the locations restored to their original condition.
The Tourism Board said the initiative is part of its broader effort to preserve and promote Nepal’s traditional culture and festivals through tourism, while creating more engaging cultural experiences for visitors during the Dashain holiday.
