Nepali Entrepreneur Couple Shines At Cannes Red Carpet
Kathmandu — The prestigious Cannes Film Festival red carpet saw a special Nepali connection this year as Nepali-origin entrepreneur couple Bhupendra Khanal and Sneha Sharma Khanal made a notable appearance.
Originally from Urlabari, Morang, the Khanal couple are the founders of Dogsee Chew, an international dog food brand headquartered in Bengaluru, India. Through their presence at Cannes, they aimed to share a message of love, care, and responsibility toward pets.
Their appearance at the global red carpet has been linked to the growing worldwide importance of pet welfare and nutrition. The couple said they prefer to identify themselves not just as entrepreneurs, but as “dog parents.”
On the red carpet, they also paid tribute to their late dog, Mowgli, by featuring embroidery inspired by him in their outfits, symbolizing love, loyalty, and emotional connection.
Bhupendra Khanal said his outfit combined Indian-style beadwork, a Nepali Dhaka topi, and black boots by Paris-based designer Stephen Carlos, representing mixed culture, identity, and a global journey.
“For me, this was not just fashion. It was a story of our identity, culture, love, and the journey that brought us here,” he said.
Khanal, who founded the social media analytics company Simplify360 a decade ago, is now active in the global churpi industry. Founded in 2015, Dogsee Chew has been expanding Himalayan natural churpi as a healthy dog chew in the international market.
The brand, known globally as “Himalayan Yak Chew,” is made from milk produced in Himalayan regions of Nepal and India. According to the company, Dogsee Chew is now available in more than 30 countries and has crossed an annual turnover of over INR 260 crore.
Co-founder and CMO Sneha Sharma said they are committed to turning pet love and proper care into a global movement.
“Cannes is a platform where stories from around the world find their audience. Dogsee Chew began with the belief that pets also deserve good love and care,” she said.
She added that representing a Himalayan-born brand at Cannes was a special achievement.
