KATHMANDU: Nepal is preparing to make history in the global animation industry with Lost In Mandala, the country’s first feature-length animated film developed specifically for international theatrical audiences. Blending Himalayan mythology, spirituality, and fantasy storytelling, the film aims to introduce Nepal’s rich cultural heritage to viewers around the world.
The story follows a 12-year-old girl and her friends after they become trapped in a mysterious parallel world inspired by the mystical traditions of the Himalayas. As darkness threatens their world, the group must rely on friendship, courage, and compassion to overcome powerful forces and find their way home.
The project is being developed by Incessant Rain Studios in partnership with NIMB Ace Capital. The film is directed by Kiran Bhakta Joshi, founder of Incessant Rain Studios and a former Visual Effects Supervisor at Walt Disney Studios, where he contributed to acclaimed productions including The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and early development of Tangled and Frozen.
The screenplay has been written by Zack Stentz, whose previous credits include Thor and X-Men: First Class, while Deepa Chipalu Joshi serves as producer. The collaboration brings together Nepali storytelling with internationally experienced filmmakers in an effort to create a globally competitive animated feature.
Distribution in Nepal and selected international markets will be handled by Apple Entertainment Pvt. Ltd., one of Nepal’s leading film distributors and the official local distribution partner for major international studios, including Disney, Warner Bros., Universal Pictures, Sony Pictures, Paramount Pictures, and 20th Century Studios.
Beyond its cinematic ambitions, Lost In Mandala represents a significant milestone for Nepal’s growing animation and visual effects industry. Incessant Rain Studios has earned international recognition for its work on major Hollywood films and streaming productions, and the new project is expected to further showcase Nepal’s creative talent on the global stage.
