Kathmandu – NIC Asia Bank has introduced a service allowing its e-commerce merchants to accept payments from international customers using Apple Pay and Google Pay.
According to the bank, businesses connected to its CyberSource Payment Gateway can receive payments from Apple Pay and Google Pay users with eligible Visa and Mastercard cards. NIC Asia Bank claims it is the first bank to introduce this payment-acceptance facility in Nepal.
The service is expected to benefit hotels, airlines, tour and travel companies, handicraft exporters, e-commerce platforms, IT companies and other businesses serving international customers.
Apple Pay and Google Pay use tokenisation technology, allowing customers to complete transactions without directly entering or sharing their physical card details.
NIC Asia Bank expects the facility to make cross-border payments more convenient and secure while supporting tourism, exports and foreign-currency earnings.
The announcement concerns payment acceptance by Nepali merchants and does not indicate that Nepal-issued cards can be added to Apple Pay or Google Pay.
