Kathmandu – The Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has appealed to the public to purchase and use only the essential quantity of petroleum products and cooking gas, urging consumers to avoid unnecessary storage.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, the corporation requested the public not to refill additional gas cylinders or stock them without need. It also encouraged households and businesses to increase the use of electricity as an alternative to cooking gas wherever possible.
NOC stated that greater caution should be exercised in the consumption of petroleum products and liquefied petroleum (LP) gas, noting that Nepal remains fully dependent on fuel imports.
The corporation warned that legal action would be taken against anyone found hoarding gas cylinders, selling cooking gas or petroleum products at inflated prices, or engaging in the illegal sale of new cylinders.
According to NOC, the consumption of petroleum products and LP gas, particularly in the industrial sector, should be reduced as much as possible. While the import and distribution of petroleum products are continuing regularly at present, the corporation has urged all consumers to buy only what is necessary and refrain from panic buying or unnecessary storage.
NOC also noted that Nepal cannot remain untouched by the wider global effects of tensions emerging in the Middle East and stressed the importance of responsible energy use in the current situation.
