Pakistan facilitates first round of US-Iran peace talks in Islamabad
Pakistan hosted the opening round of talks between the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran in Islamabad, marking a significant step toward easing tensions and sustaining the ongoing ceasefire between the two sides.
The discussions were held under Pakistan’s facilitation, aimed at creating space for constructive diplomatic engagement and encouraging a peaceful, negotiated path forward. Acting as a neutral host, Pakistan emphasized that it is not a party to the negotiations and will not comment on the substance of the confidential discussions or the positions taken by either side.
Pakistan expressed appreciation for remarks made by the Vice President of the United States, who acknowledged the country’s role in facilitating the dialogue and its hospitality in hosting the talks.
Officials described the Islamabad meeting as an important initial step in what is expected to be a continued diplomatic process. Stressing the complexity of the issues involved, Pakistan urged all parties to remain committed to dialogue, uphold the ceasefire, and exercise restraint in both actions and public statements to avoid undermining progress.
The government highlighted that such sensitive matters cannot be resolved in a single meeting and require patience, mutual respect, political will, and careful diplomacy. It underscored the importance of keeping communication channels open and advancing discussions in a constructive manner.
Reaffirming its stance, Pakistan stated its continued commitment to supporting efforts aimed at de-escalation, regional stability, and the peaceful resolution of disputes through dialogue, in line with international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter. The country also signaled its willingness to continue facilitating future engagements if requested by the involved parties.
