Shrawan Mela celebrates Culture and Seasonal Traditions

KATHMANDU: The two-day Shrawan Mela concluded on the 9th and 10th of Shrawan, bringing together visitors to celebrate the traditions, culture, and festive spirit associated with the holy month of Shrawan. Organised by Kapa Events, the mela offered a mix of cultural programmes, shopping, food, entertainment, and community activities, creating a vibrant seasonal celebration.

The event featured a Shrawan Bazaar, where local entrepreneurs, artisans, and businesses showcased a wide variety of products, including fashion items, accessories, handmade goods, lifestyle products, and seasonal collections. Food stalls serving a range of local delicacies also attracted visitors, making the mela a popular destination for families, friends, and shoppers.

A major highlight of the event was the Mehendi Bhela, where visitors had the opportunity to apply traditional henna designs, a custom widely observed during the month of Shrawan, especially by women. The programme also included a Bhajan Concert, with devotional music performances that reflected the spiritual significance of the month dedicated to Lord Shiva and added a cultural dimension to the celebration.

The mela also incorporated the Shrawan Run, organised in collaboration with Artha Run Club, encouraging participants to combine fitness with the festive spirit of the season. The activity promoted healthy living while bringing together people of different age groups through community participation.

Beyond entertainment, the event served as a platform for local businesses, startups, artisans, and creative entrepreneurs to introduce their products and connect directly with consumers. It also helped promote small businesses by providing opportunities to showcase locally made products in a festive environment.

Organisers said the objective of Shrawan Mela was to celebrate the traditions of the Shrawan season while creating a space where culture, spirituality, shopping, food, and community engagement could come together. The successful completion of the event reflected the growing interest in seasonal festivals that promote Nepali culture, support local enterprises, and encourage people to participate in meaningful community celebrations.
