Thamel and Durbar Marg are preparing to operate 24/7
Thamel and Durbar Marg are set to operate round the clock, following directives from Deputy Prime Minister Ravi Lamichhane. The Kathmandu District Administration is currently in the process of preparing for this initiative. Security plans are being formulated to ensure the safety of the area during the extended operating hours. Simultaneously, internal preparations are underway to facilitate the seamless implementation of the 24/7 schedule. Chief District Officer Jitendra Basnet assures the public of full security measures being put in place.
Moreover, additional plans will be devised based on the challenges and responses observed once the market opens for continuous operations. The Ministry of Home Affairs aims to gradually extend the 24-hour operation model to other tourist areas as well. Ongoing coordination with local administrations is integral to the success of this initiative. Presently, local authorities have categorized business operations into four groups based on natural conditions, indicating their preparedness for the new operating schedule.
