TIA to Remain Closed for 7 Hours Nightly Until May 17
Kathmandu — Tribhuvan International Airport will remain closed for seven hours every night until May 17 in order to speed up ongoing infrastructure development work at the country’s only international gateway.
According to Indu Raj Adhikari, Chief of the Terminal Management Division at the airport, all flight takeoffs and landings will be suspended daily from 11:45 PM to 6:30 AM. The temporary suspension has been introduced to allow the airport to complete pavement construction work within the targeted timeframe.
The airport office stated that the closure is necessary mainly for safety reasons, as construction work is currently being carried out on the taxiway located next to the runway. Officials said operating flights during the construction period at night could pose safety risks, which is why the airport will remain fully closed during those hours until the work is completed.
The office has also informed airlines and other service providers about the revised operating schedule and has urged them to make necessary adjustments to their flight timings in order to minimize inconvenience to passengers. Travelers have been advised to check their updated flight schedules with airlines before heading to the airport.
The nightly closure is expected to help accelerate the construction process and ensure that the improvement work is completed more efficiently within the given deadline.
