Transport entrepreneurs demand fuel price adjustment in Nepal
Kathmandu-The Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs (FNNTE) has urged the government to revise fuel prices, citing ongoing global tensions and their impact on Nepal’s transport sector.
In a press statement issued from its central office in Balkumari, Lalitpur, the federation highlighted that recent conflicts involving countries like the United States, Israel, and Iran have led to repeated increases in diesel and petrol prices. As Nepal relies heavily on imported fuel, these price hikes have directly affected public and cargo transportation operations across the country.
According to the federation, the rising fuel costs have made it increasingly difficult for transport operators to sustain services. They pointed out that despite automatic pricing mechanisms introduced by the government in recent years, fare adjustments have not kept pace with the increased expenses.
The organization has called on the government to either adjust transport fares accordingly or roll back fuel price hikes. It also urged authorities to introduce alternative measures to ease the financial burden on transport businesses.
FNNTE further appealed to all its member organizations to operate services responsibly, avoid unhealthy competition, and coordinate based on passenger flow and schedules. The federation emphasized the need for unity among transport operators during this challenging period.
The statement concludes with a strong demand for immediate government intervention to ensure the sustainability of Nepal’s transport sector.
