Two days of rest, but care continues: Government hospitals to Close OPD on weekends
Kathmandu- Government hospitals across Nepal will now observe a two-day weekend, following a new decision by the Ministry of Health and Population.
According to the ministry’s official notice, public hospitals will remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays. However, essential and emergency services will continue to operate 24 hours a day to ensure that critical care is not disrupted.
With the implementation of the two-day holiday, outpatient department (OPD) services will remain closed on these days. The ministry has stated that necessary preparations have been made to minimize any impact on healthcare services and ensure continuity where it matters most.
To prevent inconvenience to patients, hospitals have been instructed to arrange proper referral systems to nearby suitable health facilities during holidays. Ambulance services will also be kept on standby to respond to emergencies.
Additionally, hospitals have been directed to provide clear information about available services through their websites and information systems, so patients can access care without confusion.
The decision aims to balance institutional efficiency with patient care, ensuring that even during rest days, no one is left without help when it is needed most.
