Two workers have been rescued alive from a tunnel at the Trishuli-3A Hydropower Project after being trapped since the devastating Bhotekoshi flood of August 26.
The rescued workers have been identified as Sanjay Shah and Kabir Maharjan. A joint team comprising Nepali Army personnel and technical experts safely brought Shah out first, followed by Maharjan shortly afterwards.
Rescuers had earlier heard human voices from inside the tunnel, prompting them to intensify the operation. Engineer and lawmaker Shriram Neupane said the team accelerated its efforts immediately after receiving a response from those trapped inside.
Both survivors were sent for immediate medical examination and treatment following their rescue.
Search and rescue operations remain underway at the hydropower project, as authorities believe other people may still be trapped inside the tunnel. Security personnel and technical teams are continuing efforts to locate and safely evacuate them.
